Calligraphy (from Greek κάλλος kallos “beauty” + γραφή graphẽ “writing”) is a type of visual art. It is often called the art of fancy lettering (Mediavilla 1996: 17). A contemporary definition of calligraphic practice is “the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious and skillful manner” (Mediavilla 1996: 18).

Calligraphy remains a popular inking technique used for addressing envelopes or creating invitations and event stationery for weddings, bar or bat mitzvahs and other special occassions. There are several types of calligraphy formats you can use including a left aligned straight or italic font or a straight or italic centered font, to name a few. There are many options in format to suit your style and/or theme of your invitations or stationery, but also there are options with ink color as well.

Seal It With Love offers calligraphy services for clients who are creating their invitations or stationery with us, or not. Sometimes we just provide calligraphy for envelopes. So whatever your calligraphy needs are, we can help. Check out these samples of calligraphy styles that are available. Of course there is much more than this. Calligraphy is truly a treasured and beautiful art with a long history, and still is widely used today.

We were one of a handful of custom invitation vendors at this year’s Weddings in Woodinville event: http://www.weddingsinwoodinville.com/. It was a spectacular event where our own founder of Seal It With Love, the lovely Mrs.Tiffany Brown, had the opportunity to showcase our beautiful custom invitations and stationery. The program for the day’s events that all of the guests were given, were a custom designed piece in itself. We used our passport booklet invitation concept using a white cardstock booklet with black thermography on the front cover. It was a great piece our guests could take away with them to remind them of the work we do.

Of course aside from the program and displaying our custom invitations and stationary, we also took part in designing and producing custom made menu cards for four individual tables at The Woodhouse Wine Estates along with a great team of wedding vendors. Overall design and management was handled collaboratively by Taylor’d Events by Jennifer, Event Success and MG Davis Events. A really great team of event planners who brought all of us together to pull off a very successful event. To see the full vendor list check out this link: http://www.weddingsinwoodinville.com/woodhouse-wine-estates/.

Each menu card used an entirely different paper, or actually in some cases not paper at all, to match the theme of the table. You can see the menu cards below.

The first one, pictured below, was printed on 100% cotton paper using a letterpress ink process and attached it to a sheet of tree bark with twine. This is perfect for a “green” or more eco-concious wedding or event as this piece is entirely Earth friendly.

The second one, pictured below, was engraved in metal. Metal is a great idea for a more modern and contemporary wedding or special event. And they just look amazing, don’t they??

The third one, pictured below, was printed on a clear acrylic block. You can really do anything!! What a great idea for an extra funky and fun way to present your menu or anything else that you might need for a wedding or special event.

And finally the last one, was just a letterpress ink process on a 100% cotton paper. Simple yet elegant and entirely eco-friendly.

We are starting to hear from some of the brides Tiffany spoke with that day and are excited to work with all of them. We can use any of these ideas to create menus, programs, invitations, name cards, you name it, we can probably do it. Happy planning!!

Ahhh yes the destination wedding. Did you know it is becoming a more and more popular choice for brides and grooms (or brides and brides or grooms and grooms for that matter) to tie the knot? Curious as to why? Well think about it, our world is changing, people are getting engaged later on in life, remarrying more often for a second time, people want to save money and take an awesome honeymoon, etc., so these things play a major role in how and where we are getting married.

In addition to all of these reasons, I just read today in the latest edition of my Sunset magazine that “friends trips” that occur where their friends get married (destination location that is), after the wedding actually happens, are becoming more popular. They’re making a whole trip out of it. We’ve had several clients here at SIWL who have done the very same thing. Destination locations have been Puerto Penasco, Mexico, Jamaica, and the Bahamas, to name a few. And they used the ever so popular passport booklet to announce the event, as provided by, yours truly, Seal It With Love.

Check out our awesome passport booklets. The most popular are those that most closely resemble the US Passport booklet. We use a 4.25 x 5.25 Prussian color card stock booklet with rounded corners using a silver thermography inking process for the front of the booklet. The inside pages are on a silver paper weight paper, completely customized, trimmed with rounded corners and attached to the cover in a variety of ways including thread and staples. Booklets have an inside front cover for all of your personal bio information and then either 4 or 8 or 12 (and on up if you really need it) pages for the inside for all the details. An inside back cover can also be included. But this is entirely customizable, from the color of the booklet, the color of the inside pages and the type of printing process we use.

The concept of a Save the Date magnet is a fun one. We have created many custom magnets because sometimes the ones on other websites are kind of cheesy. So we can make a magnet look pretty nice. But remember, it is still a magnet in the end. So if you are looking for something a little more formal, the magnet might not be the way to go, however, we can make just about anything look formal so if that is holding you back for some reason, maybe it’s still an option. Save the Date magnets are a really fun way to announce your marriage. Recently we created a magnet for our customer Danielle in New Jersey that incorporated photos of her and her fiance that were taken in Giants football stadium. We set it up to look like a real Giants game ticket. It was a hit and the customer loved it. We can pretty much recreate any of your favorite sports teams game day tickets and make it into a super fun and super cool Save the Date magnet. So the question…To magnet or not to magnet? We say YES!!!
